California’s Polluters Pay Climate Superfund

We’ve paid enough.

It’s time to make polluters pay.

Every year, major oil companies are making billions overcharging Californians at the pump. Meanwhile, we’re paying billions more for the climate crisis they’ve helped cause.

Tens of thousands have lost their homes to wildfires and floods. Wildfire smoke, air pollution, and extreme heat are sending thousands more to the hospital each year. Home insurance costs are skyrocketing, and the financial impacts of sea level rise loom large.

Disaster recovery is hitting state and local budgets hard, jeopardizing public services, and forcing taxpayers to carry the burden.

The Polluters Pay Climate Superfund Act is the common-sense solution we need.

Climate-driven disasters like wildfires and floods are costing the state billions annually, leading to skyrocketing home insurance premiums and strained public budgets that force taxpayers to shoulder recovery costs.

The Climate Superfund could raise tens of billions to lower costs and keep Californians safe. That means:
  • Investments in an affordable clean energy transition

  • Reliable transit and electric vehicle access for all.

  • Home hardening and wildfire prevention.

  • Air filters and AC for climate-safe schools.

  • Supporting the essential workers responding to climate disasters.

At least 40% of the funds will benefit the very communities hardest-hit by climate pollution, and strong labor and job standards will ensure equity in the clean energy transition.

Vermont and New York already have Climate Superfund laws on the books. Campaigns are on the move in a dozen other states.
