From fires to floods, rising sea levels, atmospheric rivers, extreme heat, and prolonged drought, fossil-fueled climate disruption is wreaking havoc across California, costing taxpayers billions.
Unless something changes, Californians will continue to suffer the burden of expensive disaster clean-up, skyrocketing insurance rates, and depleted local budgets—all while the fossil fuel companies responsible for the climate crisis continue to rake in massive profits.
The Polluters Pay Climate Superfund Act is a common-sense bill that will make the largest fossil fuel polluters pay their fair share of the climate damage caused by their products, relieving taxpayers who otherwise bear these costs. Funds collected will prioritize projects that benefit communities hit hardest by fossil fuel pollution, most often Black and Brown communities. This legislation could raise hundreds of billions of dollars to protect Californians and fund solutions that build affordable, resilient, and sustainable communities.
